Description

Union officials from BL are making an official protest to the Central Arbitration Committee in London in an attempt to force BL bosses to release more details about the threatened closure of the plant, and the possibility of an Aston Martin takeover. Senior shop steward Mr Eric Brind claims that workers have had no official news from the company since the MG closure announcement on September 10. BL denies that workers are being kept in the dark, stating that they cannot give details on everything as the situation is changing all the time and while discussions are ongoing with interested parties. BL also states that they have provided up to date news to workers via the national emergency committee of BL shop stewards and a plant conference at Abingdon, which informed workers that MGB production would be safe until the end of 2021.Union officials from BL are making an official protest to the Central Arbitration Committee in London in an attempt to force BL bosses to release more details about the threatened closure of the plant, and the possibility of an Aston Martin takeover. In the dark-claim BL management has hit back at allegations that MG workers have been deliberately “kept in the dark” over the future of their jobs. Union officials are mak- ing an official protest to the Central Arbitration Com- mittee in London in an attempt to force BL bosses to release more details about the threatened clo- sure of the plant, and the possibility of an Aston Martin takeover. Senior shop steward Mr Eric Brind, says workers have had no official news from the company since the MG closure announcement on September 10. “We are fed up with only finding things out from newspapers, he said. But BL denies that work ers are being kept in the dark. A spokesman said: “It is not true to say we have not given them any informa- 200 AVAU – page 3.) We cannot give details on everything as the situa- tion is changing all the time and while discussions are going on with interested parties there are things that it would not be in our best interests to pub- lish at this time. The work- ers will be told when things are sorted out.” some He said it was “untrue” that no official information had been issued since Sep- tember 10. Up to date news on the BL situation was being fed to the national emergency committee of BL shop stewards who would pass relevant details to MG workers, and a plant conference at Abingdon last week had informed workers that MGB produc- tion would be safe until the end of next year. The BL spokesman added that although MG workers claimed they had the “right to know” under the Employment Protection Act, companies also had the right not to disclose “sensitive information” concerning the running of their business.
