————-

Proud scholars of EN CIRC Proud possessors of a brand new cup are these young children at an Oxfordshire school who have been highly praised for their “meticulous care and scrupul- ous scholarship.” They are all from Dr South’s Church of England School at Islip and for the last three years have been carefully collecting and labelling finds from a Roman villa which is rapidly being destroyed. Their work has gained them the challenge cup presented by the Oxfordshire branch of the Council for the Protection of Rural England for winners in a schools contest. The children found the site of the old villa and mapped it. They go on picking expeditions, mainly in September, after ploughing has been done. They collect all they can and label it. “Every year more is destroyed and soon there will be nothing left, but thanks to the children there will be a very detailed record of the site,” said Mr Michael Roberts, the headmaster. 6261 30 ML 24/9/18
