Description

On February 27, 1979, a family group from an album discovered recently at Radley College was photographed standing in a garden near the Thames River in Oxfordshire, England. The Thames, which under normal circumstances in mid-June would have been a land of picnics and boating parties, had become an unwelcome source of flooding, having risen to an extent that had not been seen since 1879. The Oxford Herald declared the unprecedented flooding in its issue of June 20, 1903. And while there is no need to spread alarm and undue anxiety among those who believe a bad winter is usually followed by a worse summer, we make no apologies for emphasizing the fact that more than two inches of rain fell in Oxfordshire in less than a week.On February 27, 1979, a family group from an album discovered recently at Radley College was photographed standing in a garden near the Thames River in Oxfordshire, England.
