FRIDAY, Giant excavator moved from Wroxton AM THE Banbury to Stratford- on-Avon road was closed on Sunday around Wroxton when this giant excavator was moved from the old ironstone workings. It weighs about 150 tons. Diversions were operated by Banbury police for most of the morning while the digger-crane was dragged from the workings alongside the main A422 and put onto a lorry for shipment to Scot- land. The excavator had been used for many years in the mining of open-cast iron- stone by the Oxfordshire Ironstone Co., Ltd., which closed last September. Since the firm closed the 26 JAN 1968 excavator has stood in a field about a mile north of Wroxton. It should have been moved on January 8, but the bad weather pre- vented the operation. The police warned motor- ists to steer clear of the Stratford road, and sent motorists through Shutford and Balscote to miss the obstruction.
