Admiral Elmo R. Zumwalt, Chief of Naval Operations since 1970, is pictured in this photograph. He was born in 1920 and became a naval midshipman in 1939, eventually rising to the rank of Admiral. Prior to his current position, he served as Commander of US Naval Forces in Vietnam and Chief of the Naval Advisory Group for the US Military Assistance Command in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970.Admiral Elmo R.
