Larter, who is 6ft. 7in. in height, has impressed observers with his high easy action, pace off the pitch, and disconcerting out swing. He made his Northamptonshire debut in 1960 and has previously played for Suffolk in the Minor Counties competition in 1958. He joined the Northamptonshire professional staff in 1959 on the recommendation of ‘Jook’ Livingstone, the New South Wales batsman who was then playing for the county Larter toured New Zealand in 1960-61.
