Admiral Thomas H. Moorer, the Chief of Naval Operations since August 1967, is a highly experienced military officer. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy and was commissioned in ’33. During World War II, he served in various theaters including the Pacific, Atlantic, North African, and European. After the war, he commanded USS Salisbury Sound and Carrier Division Six. From 62-4, he led the Seventh Fleet and later became Commander-in-Chief of the Pacific Fleet. In April 1965, he assumed command of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet and NATO’s Allied Command, Atlantic.
