Walter Leisler Kiep, leader of the CDU in Hamburg, emerges as the victor in the local elections. The Christian Democrats secured 43.2% of the votes, making them the strongest faction in the Land Parliament for the first time ever. The SPD received 42.8% of the votes, while the FDP fell short of the 5% threshold with only 4.8%. As a result, they will not be represented in the parliament.
