On June 5th 1951, Willie Watson, Leicestershire Cricket Club captain, led the team in a game for the benefit fund of Jack Firth, the Leicestershire wicketkeeper. Watson had played for England at football and cricket and was set to lead the MCC party to tour Australia that winter.
